We know many of you are ready to pounce and apply to become a Warwickshire Unit Leader.

Deadline for Unit Leader Applications is noon on Monday 2nd August.

25th World Scout Jamboree (2023)

In 2023 in SaeManGeum, Jeollabuk-do, Korea, thousands of Scouts will gather for the 25th World Scout Jamboree.

The extensive program will include:

  • adventurous activities in the mountains and rivers near SaeManGeum,
  • understanding sustainable development
  • responding to natural disasters and global emergencies
  • art and culture
  • traditional scouting skills.

The UK Contingent Vision

The UK Contingent will deliver a unique and sustainable international adventure shaped by young people. Rising to the challenges faced, we will facilitate the development of all participants and strive to be the most inclusive UK Contingent ever. Through engaging the whole of The Scouts on the journey, we will have a positive long-term impact both on Scouting and the local communities where we live.

Paul was an Assistant Unit Leader for the 24th World Scout Jamboree, in North America. We asked him a few questions about his experience; find out his journey in this video!

Q&A

The Jamboree takes place from 1 to 12 August 2023. You will be away for 3 weeks allowing for pre and/or post events.

Unit Leaders pay the same fee as participants. Fees have not yet been announced. The fee for North America was £3550. 

Money shouldn’t be a barrier to anyone wanting to apply. If this is a concern, have a chat with the county team who should be able to help you identify funding sources.

How many Warwickshire leaders are you looking to recruit?

Warwickshire have been allocated 5 patrols across 2 units.

  •     Unit 89 (3 patrols, together with one Guiding patrol)
  •     Unit 57 (2 patrols, with two patrols from Buckinghamshire Scouts)

We are looking for five enthusiastic, dynamic leaders to fill the following roles:.

  •     Unit Leader
  •     Deputy Leader
  •     Assistant Unit Leader

You can find the descriptions for each of these roles, along with an application form, in our application pack.

If you are interested in becoming a Unit Leader, download and complete the application form. All applications must be received by noon on Monday 2 August.

Interviews will take place from 9 August. Following interview, successful candidates will be invited to an assessment centre in early September.

Being a Unit leader is an adult role, and considering prior experience, the UK Contingent advise Unit Leaders, Deputies and Assistants should be at least 18 years old by 1 January 2022.  

The World Scout Jamboree Organising Committee are working hard to ensure that the event will go ahead and are putting in place plans if certain restrictions are still in place. 

Adults can also apply to be part of the International Service Team (IST). For IST, recruitment is managed by the UK Contingent. IST applications will open later this year. Keep an eye on the UK Contingent pages as well as social media channels and information in iwispa.

IST members are expected to work as part of an international team and lend a hand with whatever needs to be done. They fulfil a vital role in motivating and supporting participants and providing services, programmes and facilities. Some roles at the Jamboree may require long working hours or working at night. IST members will help ensure that all young people attending the Jamboree leave with a wider view of the word and a renewed commitment to Scouting.

Many people who have been to previous World Scout Jamborees – whether adults or young people – happily talk about a “life changing experience”. You will see new things, meet new people, be immersed in the true worldwide family of Scouts. One of the UK Contingent objectives is to ensure everyone who is part of the journey grows as a person and recognises that change – bringing back new skills and ideas to make a lasting impression on their local scouting and community.

When will applications open for participants (older Scouts and Explorers)?

We will be looking to recruit 45 young people in the autumn. Keep an eye out for more information in iwispa and our social media channels after the summer break. 

It is important that all leaders and adults ensure eligible older Scouts and Explorers across the County are given the opportunity to apply. The aim is to make the Warwickshire Contingent the most diverse and inclusive yet.
