Explorer Belt
The Explorer Belt is a challenge of a lifetime. It is a chance to take part in a 10 day expedition that brings you a real understanding of a different country, its culture and way of life. Explorer Belt is for Explorers age 16 and over and for Network.
About the expedition
You will undertake a 10 day expedition as part of a team* outside of the UK with a minimum travelling time of 50 hours over the 10 days, by foot, bicycle, horse, canoe, boat or dinghy. The minimum starting number of young people per team is three, with the minimum of two per team completing the expedition
You will also complete a major project and 10 small projects during your travels, documenting these in a log book, and deliver a presentation when you return.
In recent years there have been Explorer Belt expeditions to Slovakia, the Netherlands and there are planned trips to Canada and Finland. For help getting started or if you would like to chat to another Explorer Belt group, email international@warwickshirescouts.org.uk.
Supporting an Explorer Belt
Explorers aged 16 to 18 may only participate in an organised expedition supported by an in-country leadership team.
Leaders should ensure that young people fully understand the requirements of the award and assign a mentor to work with the group and agree what they will do for the award.
